About the Position:

We're excited to announce opportunities within our Safety, Evaluations and Analysis Lab (SEAL), dedicated to enhancing AI safety and transparency. As a SEAL Research Scientist or Research Engineer, you will contribute to pioneering research and development projects such as:

• Designing and implementing robust evaluation benchmarks for reproducibility and reliability.
• Developing cutting-edge model-assisted red teaming methods.
• Creating state-of-the-art LLM-based automated rating systems, utilizing the Scale ecosystem.
• Enhancing rating quality with innovative rater assist techniques and critique modeling.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ideal candidates should display:

• A dedication to promoting safe, secure, and trustworthy AI deployments.
• Practical experience in conducting technical research, with proficiency in frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
• A strong portfolio of published research, preferably in generative AI.
• At least three years of experience solving complex ML challenges in research or product development contexts.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of thriving in a cross-functional team environment.

Experience in cloud technologies such as AWS or GCP, and familiarity with LLM fine-tuning are advantageous.

Compensation and Benefits:

Scale AI offers competitive salaries ranging from $176,000 to $300,000 based on location, skills, and experience. Benefits include equity, comprehensive health coverage, retirement benefits, and a generous PTO policy. Additional perks such as a commuter stipend may also be available.
