Role Overview: Senior Analytics Engineer at Gusto

As a Senior Analytics Engineer, your primary task will be to develop and maintain the foundational data infrastructure critical to scaling our business initiatives across various domains. This dynamic role includes creating data products that empower organizational stakeholders to explore and solve data-related queries effectively, managing substantial data transformations, designing intuitive systems, and maintaining high standards of documentation and user-friendly processes.

Your work will report directly to the Head of Analytics Engineering and requires close coordination with Data Analysts, Data Science, Engineering, and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain Gusto's production data warehouse with optimized schemas for various business use cases.
  • Build robust data ingestion pipelines from diverse sources, including APIs, to ensure high data quality and traceability.
  • Enable intuitive data exploration for users across the company to foster independent data inquiry resolution.
  • Lead initiatives for Quality Assurance and Data Quality to refine development processes and uphold data reliability.
  • Enhance data warehousing by implementing best practices in data modeling and quality testing.
  • Drive enhancements in the reliability, usability, and efficiency of the Data Team's technical infrastructure.

What We're Looking For:

  • 7+ years of experience in managing complex datasets from multiple sources such as product, marketing, and finance.
  • Proficiency in Data Modeling and Data Architecture within a distributed database environment, like Redshift.
  • Advanced expertise in Python for building production data pipelines; experience with Airflow and dbt is advantageous.
  • Strong acumen in SQL, relational databases, and the modern data stack.
  • Skills in BI and data visualization, with the additional advantage of having Tableau experience.

Compensation and Location:

Gusto offers competitive salaries ranging from $140,000-$210,000/year, depending on the location. Our physical offices are in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, with partial remote working expected.
