We are in search of a Principal Analytics Engineer to assist and improve our data handling; someone who can assist the Data Platform Team in optimizing Viator's data models, enhancing the usability and discoverability of our data, thereby expanding its impact. The Data Platform Team constructs the platform, infrastructure, and tools that constitute Viator's data ecosystem. The ideal Principal Analytics Engineer is seasoned in providing support to multiple products and different types of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical - someone possessing a broad understanding of the business, and the capability to balance business needs against technical demands. This role will collaborate with a diverse array of stakeholders to ensure that the data subsequently informing business decisions is precise, timely, and easily accessible. Responsibilities include: - Executing strategic projects to cultivate opportunities for data-driven decision-making, such as identifying areas where existing data may be inadequate and then developing a strategy for enhancement. - Making tactical enhancements to a complex data infrastructure, like overseeing a project to centralize and standardize similar data originating from different sources. - Forensic data investigation—probing and diagnosing often intricate data interaction issues. - Efficiently and plainly communicating business requirements to technical stakeholders and technical requirements to business stakeholders. - Collaborating with people from various business functions to fulfill their data and reporting needs—finance, marketing, analytics, product, and engineering. Key Requirements: - A Bachelor's Degree in a technical or business-related field (Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related Engineering); a Master's Degree is preferred. - 5+ years of experience in an analytical or business intelligence role. - Advanced SQL and data skills to manage data modeling with large, complex datasets. - Ability to communicate effectively with people across multiple functions. - Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and the ambition to independently and proactively tackle various data problems in a fast-paced environment. - Demonstrated proficiency in data modeling and data warehousing to address the analytical needs of the business. - Confidence in manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large datasets. - Experience in reporting and data visualization with automated self-service reporting tools. - Knowledge of e-commerce and web and native app analytics is a plus. - Familiarity with financial data and ledger-based systems is a plus.
