About the Role

As a Senior Applied Research Scientist, you will have the unique opportunity to influence how AI is applied in some of the world's largest and most complex organizations. You will collaborate closely with Subject Matter Experts, Scientists, and Senior Managers, traveling up to 25% to meet partner researchers. Your expertise in science, engineering, and business will be pivotal in advancing AI applications in diverse business environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and research open and interesting questions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and researchers across Microsoft Research (MSR).
  • Take ownership of research projects from prototype to publication.
  • Engage in community leadership, publication, and open-source frameworks.
  • Think beyond single benchmarks and models to larger classes of problems and systems of experimentation.
  • Stay updated on state-of-the-art machine learning concepts and applications.
  • Embody our culture and values in all interactions.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in a relevant field OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Multimodal analysis, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of industry, intern, and/or Post-Doc experience.
  • Skills in algorithmic problem-solving, system design, and software development.
  • Familiarity with open-source tools such as PyTorch, and statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
  • Publication record in top-tier, peer-reviewed conferences or scientific journals.

Compensation and Benefits

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. Specific work locations, such as the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, have a different range of USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
