Team Description

As a Senior Associate Data Scientist at Capital One's Auto Finance business, you'll be part of a high-performing modeling and analytics team. We focus relentlessly on the craft of modeling and innovation. By leveraging cutting-edge computing and machine learning technologies, we process billions of customer records to unlock significant opportunities. Role Description

In this role, you will:

  • Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver delightful products to our customers.
  • Utilize a broad technology stack, including Python, GitHub, Sagemaker, SQL, AWS, and more, to uncover insights from vast amounts of numeric and textual data.
  • Build machine learning models through all development phases, from design to training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
  • Use your interpersonal skills to translate complex work into tangible business objectives.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is:

  • Customer-first: You prioritize analyzing and creating while maintaining a passion for making the right decisions for our customers.
  • Technical: You are comfortable with open-source languages and enthusiastic about advancing your skills. You have hands-on experience developing data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
  • Statistically-minded: You have experience building, validating, and backtesting models, interpreting confusion matrices and ROC curves, and applying hypothesis testing, classification, clustering, time series, and causal inference.
  • Innovative: You continually research and evaluate emerging technologies and current state-of-the-art methods, technologies, and applications, seeking opportunities to apply them.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of experience in data analytics, or currently pursuing a Master's Degree or PhD, with the expectation the degree will be obtained before the start date
  • At least 1 year of experience with open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis
  • At least 1 year of experience with machine learning
  • At least 1 year of experience with relational databases

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)
  • At least 2 years' experience utilizing cloud-based solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • At least 2 years' experience with a broad stack of technologies (Python, GitHub, Sagemaker, SQL, R)
  • Experience in advanced statistical modeling and optimization, including causal inference, hypothesis testing, linear regression, logistic regression, generalized additive models, Bayesian statistics, time-series, and non-parametric modeling
