The Role

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Back-End Engineer to join our New Applications team. In this role, you'll work closely with the Product Lead and Analysts to drive innovation and development in a critical area of our business.

Responsibilities

System Ownership and Influence

• Take responsibility for key components of our credit decisioning system.
• Enhance business capabilities through technical innovation.
• Collaborate with other developers to drive architectural improvements.
• Develop and communicate technical plans to support our long-term vision.

Leadership and Collaboration

• Build strong relationships with stakeholders to understand and contribute to the business domain.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including tech, product, and analytics, to deliver impactful projects.
• Manage and mentor junior developers, fostering a culture of learning and growth.
• Lead by example, becoming deeply knowledgeable about our codebase and guiding other developers.

The Projects

You'll be working on mature, large code bases and will need to be comfortable learning new technologies:

• Reimagine and improve our credit decisioning platform to optimize customer journeys.
• Build and maintain integrations with third-party data providers to enable our credit-assessment process.
• Constantly improve our customer application journey, leading and collaborating with team members from initial ideation through deployment to evaluation.

The Team

The New Applications team manages the entire customer journey from sign-up to internal credit assessment. This team coordinates the collection of data from external integrations with internal processes to make automated credit decisions. As the Tech Lead, you’ll work daily with back-end, front-end, product, design, and analytics team members, managing other developers.

Requirements

Essential

• Proficiency in Python and strong background in back-end engineering.
• Experience with Django, PostgreSQL, and relational database management.
• Keen interest in maintaining and optimizing current systems, as well as engaging in full-stack projects.
• Commercial awareness and product mindset.

Bonus

• Experience building large systems in complex business domains.
• Experience with data analytics and Machine Learning processes.
• Understanding of complex data systems and event-sourced data models.
• Strong numerical or technical background, ideally with a degree in maths, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Front-end development experience.

Salary

The salary range for this role is from £80,000 to £110,000. We are open-minded, so please include your salary expectations with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates and conduct quarterly performance and salary reviews.
