About Our Opportunity

Are you an expert in data analysis eager to make an impact? Join our Public Health Branch as a Senior Data Analyst, where you will work with exceptional colleagues in the Public Health Surveillance system. Reporting to the Director of Public Health Surveillance, you will conduct comprehensive research, perform meticulous data analysis, and provide well-founded recommendations. Utilize your expertise to shape policy development and create data visualization tools aimed at enhancing data transparency.

Primary Accountabilities

Your primary responsibilities include analyzing complex health administrative datasets using statistical techniques to support population and public health assessment and surveillance. Additionally, you will:

  • Build and maintain data visualization tools for internal and public audiences.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, translating complex analytical concepts into actionable insights.
  • Present and communicate data in easy-to-understand terms.
  • Identify relevant data to support population health assessment and surveillance.
  • Provide evidence-informed advice to support strategic decision-making within the Public Health Branch.
  • Work closely with public health epidemiologists.
  • Identify innovative analysis techniques to provide new insights for population health assessment and surveillance.

Qualifications and Experience

We require:

  • A related bachelor’s degree (computer science, natural sciences, mathematics, or economics) with at least seven (7) years of related experience in data science and data analytics; or a related Master’s degree with five (5) years of related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adaptability in information dissemination, and strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Consensus and team-building skills with a commitment to an inclusive workforce.
  • Self-starter with integrity, capable of working under minimal supervision and determining the root cause of complex problems.
  • Experience handling confidential information with the necessary judgment and discretion.

Proficiency in:

  • SQL programming, R, and SAS.
  • Developing and maintaining data visualization tools.
  • Responding promptly to, and understanding, data requests from various sources.
  • Leading complex analytical projects and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Developing comprehensive information and data systems.
  • Effectively communicating and presenting complex analytical information.

It is essential to be proficient in statistical analysis, think strategically, provide long-term planning insights, and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, fostering an inclusive environment.

Working Conditions

This role involves regular office work with frequent collaboration with colleagues in the Public Health branch at DHW, across the department, and in other departments and agencies.
