What is the role?

As a Senior Data Analyst in Tax, you will be a key factor in clarifying Etsy's progressively complex tax situation. This analyst will be crucial in providing key partners with critical analytics and acting as a thought leader at the forefront of future developments. You will provide monitoring tools and participate in creating recommendations for ongoing development in these complex fields. As the main provider of insights, you'll be responsible for creating and maintaining foundational data reports that ensure compliance and promote efficiency. This role offers the opportunity to become a thought partner to other leaders in the tax, finance, and payment sectors, and to influence Etsy's future roadmap. We are looking for someone who understands how to evaluate sophisticated opportunities, can build robust data reporting tools, and has a passion for contemplating and communicating on these subjects. This is a full-time role, working with the Senior Manager of Payments and Finance Analytics. Apart from a , you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. This role requires you to be present in Etsy’s Dublin office, either in-person or flexibly. What is this team like at Etsy?

Payments and Finance Analytics (informally known as Money Analytics) is an analytics team dedicated to using data science and analytics techniques to drive significant insights, including:

  • Understanding the intricacies of Etsy's payment processing data and the various interactions with our financial systems.
  • Constructing rich data sources of truth that intertwine complex payments data with foundational data from across the Etsy ecosystem.
  • Identifying and advocating outstanding opportunities for Etsy's growth that impact key metrics.
  • We are a remote-friendly team - our collaboration includes people in an office and those connecting digitally

What does a typical day look like?

  • Analyze requirements from tax reporting and contribute to a product solution.
  • Collaborate with a compliance team to ensure product development aligns with payment compliance requirements.
  • Build foundational scripts using SQL and database skills.
  • Create excellent dashboards and visualizations using Looker.
  • Engage in discussions with external vendors and stakeholders including technical developers.
  • Communicate with partners about timelines, priorities, and expectations for projects.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine your technical toolkit; teach what you learn to the team.
  • Show a high level of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, leading you to find excellent solutions.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you excel in this role include:

  • 4+ years of experience supporting payments or engineering teams as an analyst or in a quantitative role where you derived significance from complex data sets.
  • Knowledge of tax and compliance processes.
  • Proficiency in SQL and some experience with Python or R.
  • The ability to communicate your insights verbally, visually, and in writing.
  • A deep concern for the quality of your data and integrity of your work.
  • A passion for replicable work and tools that support it; you can mentor others on how to improve and streamline their own work.
  • A curious nature about subjects such as quantitative analysis, data visualization, and process efficiency.
  • Proven project management skills, with the ability to see projects through to completion.
