Role Overview

Capitalize on the opportunity to shape the future of finance as a Senior Data Engineer at Capital Group. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing our Quantitative Portfolio Construction Platform. This platform is crucial for generating accurate trade recommendations and analytics, aligning investment portfolios effectively with reference portfolios by leveraging a sophisticated risk model, quantitative optimization strategies, and portfolio constraints.

In this high-impact position, you will lead the development of an operational data storage model and manage our comprehensive data warehousing operations, preserving valuable historical analytical data. Your expertise will also extend to developing complex data pipelines and handling big data platforms in a cloud environment.

As a leader in our technology division, your efforts in driving operational excellence will be critical. You will champion continuous improvement and make strategic decisions that minimize operational friction and enhance system reliability.

Are You the Ideal Candidate?

If you possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field, and have at least 8 years of experience in data engineering, you might be the perfect fit. We are looking for someone with a profound quantitative background in areas such as business intelligence, big data platforms, reporting, analytics, and database development.

Your technical proficiency should include a strong foundation in backend system architecture with knowledge in distributed systems design, microservices, serverless architectures, SQL/NoSQL databases, RESTful APIs, cloud-based messaging platforms, and container orchestration systems like Docker or Kubernetes. Skill in SQL databases, ETL processes using PySpark/EMR, data warehousing solutions like Data Bricks, data lakes such as Delta Lake, and data modeling are crucial.

Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms is required, and an AWS Certification will certainly set you apart. Familiarity with data warehouse design, especially using STAR schema and platforms like Redshift, Databricks, or Snowflake, is highly desired.

Compensation and Benefits

Based in Southern California, this position offers a base salary range of $166,551 to $266,482. Beyond the competitive salary, you will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, Capital’s annual profitability bonus, and a robust retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
