We are looking for a Staff Data Engineer to join our Enterprise Data Management (EDM) team, the hub for data at Ancestry. The team handles data from across the organization, processing, transforming, and delivering it to our internal and external stakeholders.
As a Staff Data Engineer, you will:
- Develop extract-transform-load (ETL) pipelines
- Practice good coding techniques including writing unit and integration tests, doing commits and pull requests (Git), etc.
- Mentor, train, and collaborate with other engineers to develop scalable, resilient, and maintainable ETL pipelines
- Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure pipelines are successful and data meets quality requirements
- Provide technical leadership to the team and across the EDM organization
- Ensure ETL pipelines meet quality standards and data quality requirements
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to identify and define data requirements, design solutions, and ensure timely delivery
- Manage individual data projects, ensuring appropriate designs and stakeholder involvement
Ideal applicants should have:
- 10+ years of experience as a data engineer, particularly in developing ETL pipelines
- 10+ years of industry experience programming in Python and SQL (or related languages) with significant experience in data warehouses, Spark, and other related technologies (experience with Airflow is a plus)
- Experience training and mentoring other engineers, leading teams and coordinating with stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with agile software development
- Familiarity with AWS technologies (specifically, EMR)
- Bachelors or equivalent 4-year degree in Computer Science or relevant industry experience

Ancestry supports the ParityPledge in Support of Women and People of Color and values pay transparency and pay equity. The base salary range for this position is $133,200 - $200,550 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision.
