This role will primarily be remote but will require the flexibility to travel to client locations as well as our offices in London, Sheffield, and Bristol.

You will assist in safeguarding the UK through data-driven insights and solutions; you will work closely with public sector clients to collect, analyze, and interpret complex data sets, providing valuable insights that support evidence-based decision-making. Due to the nature of this position, you must be willing and eligible to obtain a minimum of SC clearance.

Key Tasks:

The Data Engineer will be:

Responsible for working with other members of the delivery team across a mix of large and small projects, translating data into valuable insights that inform decisions for small to large transformation projects and programmes

Working with other members of the delivery team, you will be responsible for identifying and using the most appropriate analytical techniques, developing robust, scalable and future-proof data services that meet user needs and designing and writing and iterating code from prototype to production-ready.

Communicating effectively across organizational, technical, and political boundaries to understand the context and how to simplify complex and technical information and language for non-technical audiences.

Creating effective data visualizations suitable for the audience

Working with the Senior Data Engineer to support the growth and development of the team

Staying informed about advances in digital analytics tools and data manipulation products.

Gathering, consolidating, cleansing, synthesizing, and interpreting data to derive meaningful and actionable insights.

Understanding how to expose data from systems (for example, through APIs), linking data from multiple systems and delivering streaming services.

Creating data models and understanding when to use different types of data models.

Ensuring risks associated with deployment are adequately understood and documented.

Requirements

Essential Skills and Experience:

Strong T-SQL Development including debugging & troubleshooting

SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) experience

Solid Relational Database design skills with a focus on performance optimization

Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications

Attention to detail and ability to quality check your own and other team member's work

Good experience with ETL

Infrastructure, Azure Data Factory / SSIS, SQL (On-prem/Cloud),

Good experience with Analytical/Reporting

SQL (On-prem/Cloud), Analysis Services / Tabular Data Model, Power BI/Tableau/T-SQL

Understanding of analytical tools; you are numerate.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

Experience of working within the Defence sector

Data streaming and real-time data

Python experience

Understanding of statistical principles necessary to interpret data and apply models. For example, knowledge of errors and confidence intervals to understand if a data relation is real.

Experience with high performance, low latency or large volume data systems (i.e. 1 billion+ records, terabyte size database)

Worked within a continuous integration environment with automated builds, deployment, and unit testing

Exposure to iterative/agile development methodologies such as SCRUM

Existing Security Clearance

This role will require you to have or be willing to undergo Security Clearance. During the onboarding process, candidates will be asked to complete a Baseline Personnel Security Standard; details of the evidence required to apply can be found on the Gov.UK site.
