Job Description: Senior Data Scientist - Commerce

The Data Science team at Cash App leverages unique datasets to derive insights and drive actions that enhance customer experiences. In this role, you will work within our Commerce organization, collaborating closely with product management and cross-functional partners to integrate Cash App and Afterpay ecosystems deeply. You will focus on innovative products like Afterpay Plus. Candidates with an understanding of consumer shopping experiences are particularly valuable for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze large datasets using SQL and scripting languages to provide actionable insights for the product team and other key stakeholders.
  • Use a variety of statistical and mathematical modeling techniques to understand customer behavior and address problems from first principles.
  • Design and analyze A/B experiments to evaluate product changes.
  • Collaborate with engineers to log new data sources for building new product features.
  • Build, forecast, and report on metrics driving strategy and decision-making for key business initiatives.
  • Write code to process, cleanse, and combine data sources, resulting in curated ETL datasets for the broader team.
  • Create and share data visualizations and self-serve dashboards with partners.
  • Communicate findings effectively with team leads and cross-functional stakeholders.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Exposure to or interest in anomaly detection or regulatory data science.
  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, or a related STEM field with 7+ years of relevant experience, OR a graduate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools like Tableau or Looker.
  • Experience with scripting and data analysis languages such as Python or R.
  • Deep knowledge of cohort and funnel analyses, and an understanding of statistical concepts like selection bias and probability distributions.

Block uses a market-based approach to compensation, which varies by location. U.S. locations are categorized into four zones based on labor costs in each area. Starting pay will be based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Pay ranges are subject to future adjustments.

  • Zone A: USD $171,800 - USD $257,600
  • Zone B: USD $163,200 - USD $244,800
  • Zone C: USD $154,600 - USD $232,000
  • Zone D: USD $146,000 - USD $219,000
