The Role
As a Senior Data Scientist on the Forecasting team, you will spearhead the development of forecasting systems integral to pricing strategy and inventory management across Thrasio’s extensive product portfolio. Collaborate with experts in causal inference, pricing, optimization, and machine learning to drive world-class automated decision-making through accurate and timely forecasts, a cornerstone of Thrasio’s long-term success and market leadership.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Utilize machine learning, statistical, and econometric time series techniques for precise, granular demand forecasts within a hierarchical product catalog.
- Partner with pricing and supply chain data scientists to embed the causal impact of their business levers into your forecasts, establishing a single source of truth for forward planning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, product management, and brand managers to build user-friendly interfaces for your models, enabling tracked overrides of forecasts when business context is absent.
- Deliver and support production code that drives business-critical decision-making systems.
What You Bring to the Party
- Masters or Ph.D. in a quantitative field (e.g., computer science, economics, operations research, statistics, etc.) or related disciplines like Industrial Engineering, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- 3+ years of practical experience in data science systems, preferably in e-commerce.
- Experience in delivering robust and maintainable production codebases for autonomously delivering data science models to downstream systems.
- Proficiency in statistical/econometric time series modeling (e.g., ARIMA, Exponential Smoothing/ETS), machine learning (e.g., XGBoost/LightGBM), or hybrid techniques (e.g., ES-RNN).
- Strong skills in Python, SQL, and Git.
- Passion for driving significant business impact through applied science, humility, and collaboration.
Nice to Have
- Experience in supply chain optimization, pricing, or causal inference (to ease collaboration with partner teams).
- Familiarity with Databricks, Snowflake, or Spark.
