About the Role: Senior Scientist/Associate Director, Data Engineering

AstraZeneca is searching for a Senior Scientist or Associate Director Data Engineer to join the Predictive AI & Data team. You'll be responsible for delivering fit-for-purpose solutions to our CPSS (Clinical Pharmacology & Safety Science) colleagues, using enterprise infrastructure and technology aligned with our “Bold Ambition” initiative for 2030.

Responsibilities include gathering requirements from stakeholders, designing solutions, leading the delivery process, and collaborating closely with R&D IT for the handover into BAU service. You will engage with colleagues globally, predominantly from Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in data and analytics delivery
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
• Effective communication abilities in English (written and spoken)
• Strong analytical and data manipulation capabilities
• Proficiency in data visualization and user-friendly interactions with data
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science/Engineering, or related field
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail
• Technical proficiency in ETL tools (Snaplogic, Informatica, Snowflake pipes)
• Knowledge of Database technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Oracle, RDBMS, NoSQL)
• Experience with Cloud technologies (AWS, Snowflake)
• Familiarity with CI/CD (including Git), Data Warehousing and Data modeling (3NF, Star Schema)
• Proficiency in Programming Languages (Python, R, SQL)
• Experience in technical leadership in data and analytics

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Familiarity with Data Visualization Tools (PowerBI, Spotfire, Rshiny, Python Dash, or Flask, Streamlit)
• Experience in Architecting Data Platforms, particularly Data Mesh architectures
• Knowledge of Agile practices (SCRUM, SAFe, Kanban)
• Familiarity with ML and AI workflows and solutions
• Knowledge of Drug Development processes, especially pre-clinical
