Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a business financial infrastructure platform. Millions of companies—from the biggest corporations to the most driven startups—use Stripe to process payments, increase their profits, and speed up new business opportunities. Our goal is to boost the GDP of the internet, and we have a tremendous amount of work to do. This means you have a unique chance to make the global economy accessible to everyone while doing the most significant work of your career.

About the team

Stripe can only accomplish our goal of boosting the internet's GDP if we earn the trust of our users. Software engineers on the Data Privacy Technologies team play a vital role in this mission by simplifying data security and privacy for Stripe and its users.

What you’ll do

The Data Privacy Technologies team creates systems and tools that allow Stripe to defend and manage its data effectively, on a large scale. As a team of engineers, we use data classification, machine learning, and pseudonymization techniques such as tokenization, redaction, filtering, and masking.

Responsibilities

  • Create, manage, and operate fundamental infrastructure (e.g., APIs, services, and frameworks) and tools used by all of Stripe's engineering teams. For instance, to tag and automatically anonymize sensitive data
  • Enhance engineering standards and procedures
  • Make significant decisions about systems, productivity, security, and privacy — their edge cases, failure modes, and trade-offs
  • Work closely with other engineering teams and collaborate cross-functionally with legal, product, compliance, and operations teams to embed best practices for data protection into how products and infrastructure are built

Who you are

We are looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements for the role. If you meet these requirements, we encourage you to apply. Having the preferred qualifications is a plus, not a necessity.

Minimum requirements

  • At least two years of software engineering experience in a high-pressure production environment
  • Empathy, exceptional communication skills, and a deep respect for collaboration
  • A mindset of continual learning, regardless of level or experience
  • The ability to think creatively and comprehensively about reducing risk in a complex, rapidly evolving environment
  • The ability to move forward when faced with ambiguous problems that lack clear ownership

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in data platform engineering
  • Experience in machine learning
  • Full stack experience
  • Experience in privacy and/or security
