Job Opportunity: Sr. Data Engineer (Hadoop, Spark, Python/Scala, 3-5 years exp)

About the Role

The Payment Systems Risk team at Visa is dedicated to building essential risk and fraud prevention applications and services. Our tasks include idea generation, architecture, design, development, and testing of products that help Visa clients detect, prevent, and mitigate risks in payment systems.

As a Data Engineer, you will establish processes, automations, and big data systems based on business and technical requirements. Your role involves steering multiple requirements, routing appropriately, and planning big data technology using a combination of open-source and vendor-supported technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with managers and clients to understand business requirements and desired outcomes.
• Assist in scoping and designing analytic data assets, implementing modelled attributes, and contributing to brainstorming sessions.
• Develop and maintain robust data engineering processes to create self-serve data and tools for Visa’s data scientists.
• Engage in RnD, data governance, system infrastructure, analytics tool evaluation, and other cross-team functions as needed.
• Identify opportunities to automate and scale repeatable analyses or build self-service tools for business users.
• Execute data engineering projects ranging from small to large, either autonomously or as part of a team.
• Ensure project delivery within timelines and budget requirements.

This is a hybrid role, with employees alternating between remote and office work. Hybrid employees are expected to work from the office 2-3 days a week, as determined by leadership, ensuring a presence in the office for 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 2 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD).

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD).
• Experience in creating data-driven business solutions and solving data problems with technologies like Hadoop, Hive, Spark, MongoDB, NoSQL, and traditional data technologies like RDBMS, MySQL.
• Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (e.g., Python / Shell Scripting) and one or more programming languages (e.g., Java or Scala).
• Familiarity with data visualization and business intelligence tools like Tableau.
• Experience or knowledge of Continuous Integration & Development and automation tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Git, etc.
• Understanding of Agile and Test-Driven Development methodology.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent problem-solving abilities.
