About the Role: Senior Data Scientist - Data Science & Engineering

A role with Target Data Science & Engineering means the chance to develop and manage state-of-the-art predictive algorithms that use data at scale to automate and optimize decisions. You’ll work on exciting projects in fields such as Marketing, Supply Chain Optimization, Network Security, and Personalization. Whether you join our Statistics, Optimization, or Machine Learning teams, you'll be challenged to harness Target’s impressive data breadth to build powerful algorithms.

Team Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will:

  • Influence data science efforts within the team and with Product teams.
  • Implement data science solutions and contribute to Target’s culture by modeling our values.
  • Explore and analyze data, identify anomalies, and create visualizations.
  • Understand and follow foundational programming principles, including best practices in model development, unit testing, code organization, and CI/CD.
  • Create maintainable and well-documented codebases using approved programming languages (Java, Scala, Python, R).
  • Adhere to best practices in data analysis and understanding.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A 4-year degree in Quantitative disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of professional experience or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in developing optimization, simulation, and statistical models.
  • Excellent analytical thinking skills and a creative approach to solving business problems.
  • Hands-on programming skills in Python, SQL, Hadoop/Hive. Knowledge of Spark, Scala, R, Java is a plus.
  • Good understanding of mathematical and statistical concepts, MILP, algorithms, and computational complexity.
  • A passion for solving real-world problems using a data science approach.
  • Experience in implementing advanced statistical techniques such as regression, clustering, PCA, and time series forecasting.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey data-driven stories through visualizations, graphs, and narratives.
  • A self-driven and results-oriented attitude, with the ability to meet tight timelines.
  • Strong collaborative skills to work effectively across geographies and time zones.
