Sr. Director of Data Governance Role:

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Director of Data Governance with at least 15 years of experience in data governance, data management, or data compliance. You will lead the data governance team at Gen, ensure that data is governed, protected, and utilized to drive business value, and develop and implement policies and frameworks in compliance with relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish a data governance framework aligned with business objectives.
  • Partner with the Head of Data to implement a comprehensive data governance program.
  • Develop and enforce policies to safeguard sensitive and personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Define data lifecycle management processes, including acquisition, storage, archival, and disposal.
  • Collaborate with data owners and stewards to ensure data ownership and stewardship responsibilities.
  • Oversee the recruitment of new data governance analysts and engineers.
  • Review and enhance the skills mix and diversity of the data governance team.
  • Mentor staff, promoting their professional and personal development.
  • Inspire and guide team members to drive organizational change and adoption of governance standards.

Data Strategy and Governance Framework:

  • Assist in defining Gen’s data strategy, aligning with business goals and priorities.
  • Establish data policies, standards, and guidelines for quality, privacy, and security.
  • Collaborate with legal, security, and privacy teams to define robust data governance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including GDPR and CPRA.

Data Quality and Standards:

  • Establish data quality standards to ensure data accuracy, consistency, completeness, and timeliness.
  • Develop and implement data quality metrics and processes.
  • Report on data quality metrics to CDO leadership and senior management.

Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in data governance or related field.
  • Strong understanding of databases, data lineage, and data management systems.
  • Familiarity with data compliance and regulatory requirements, including GDPR, PCI, and CPRA.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and data-related laws and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
