ATG is Dolby's dedicated research division, focusing on future insights and technological innovation to sustain Dolby's growth. Our team possesses diverse expertise in fields like AI/ML, algorithms, digital signal processing, audio engineering, image processing, computer vision, data science, distributed systems, cloud computing, and IoT.

Position Overview: Distributed Systems and Stream Processing Researcher

We are on the lookout for talented researchers enthusiastic about advancing state-of-the-art technologies. This role involves exploring data platforms, distributed processing systems, and a wide array of big data and AI applications, both on the cloud and edge environments. You will translate groundbreaking research into real-time, AI-enabled streaming systems and immersive applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop advanced distributed software architectures and stream processing platforms for real-time complex event processing, enhancing Dolby’s Audio/Visual experiences.
  • Implement novel algorithms and protocols to support the scalable, reliable training and inference of AI/ML models in distributed environments.
  • Build new platforms and tools that enable data-driven experiences informed by AI-based and acoustic techniques.
  • Analyze unstructured data to understand customer behaviors and enable novel system experiments.
  • Collaborate with ATG researchers on opportunities in applied AI and machine learning in Audio/Video domains.

What You Need to Succeed:

  • Technical Depth: Expertise in creating new SW architecture and systems for real-time audio/video algorithms in distributed environments.
  • Exploring New Technologies: Eagerness to learn and innovate in new fields.
  • Invent & Innovate: Develop and implement cutting-edge technologies and ideas to maintain Dolby’s leadership in enhancing digital content experiences.
  • Sense of Urgency: React swiftly to emerging trends and technologies, making strategic decisions to stay ahead in the market.
  • Collaboration: Work with peers and external partners to develop industry-leading technologies.

Desired Background:

  • PhD in Computer Science or related fields.
  • Knowledge of statistics, data science, AI/ML, and big data management.
  • Proficiency in Python and an additional language like C++, Golang, Rust.
  • Expertise in data structures, distributed algorithms, data modeling, and data analytics for heterogeneous, stream-based data.
  • Experience with cloud systems, distributed architectures, service design, and implementation (REST, Thrift/gRPC).
  • Experience with real-time messaging and streaming frameworks (PubSub/Kafka, Storm, Kinesis, etc).
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes, app deployments, and optimization patterns.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML models, cloud optimization, and software patterns.
  • Familiar with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch.
  • Experience using AWS, GCP, or other public cloud services.
  • Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, bash, UNIX/Linux commands, and project management tools like JIRA.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Relevant publications in distributed systems conferences.

Bonus: Experience with Databricks / Spark and knowledge of Audio/Video streaming formats.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this full-time position in the Atlanta Area is $144,600-$176,700, plus bonuses, benefits, and potential
