Staff Applied Scientist, Autonomy Evaluation

As a Staff Applied Scientist in Autonomy Evaluation, you'll develop the world's most advanced AV driving capabilities and maintain superhuman performance levels by creating quality metrics and actionable insights throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Define success criteria from ambiguous problem statements.
  • Drive evaluation strategies and roadmaps.
  • Monitor and analyze safety, roadcraft, and compliance metrics for core autonomous capabilities.
  • Ensure comprehensive AV performance validation with high-fidelity signals.
  • Streamline testing and road monitoring processes.
  • Mentor fellow Data Scientists and foster a collaborative work environment.

Individual Contribution

  • Build high-quality data miners and metrics for testing, road monitoring, and model training.
  • Analyze AV performance data for optimization opportunities.
  • Develop new methodologies to improve metric quality scalably.
  • Test and deploy methods in our simulation environment.
  • Collaborate with various engineers and stakeholders to build shareable tools and dashboards.
  • Convert insights into actionable recommendations for AV software development.

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Robotics, Transportation, Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, or relevant experience.
  • 5+ years post-academic experience in evaluating large models, data science, or machine learning.
  • Strong foundation in software engineering and production-environment coding.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • Experience designing and critically analyzing machine learning models for big data.
  • Solid statistical foundations.
  • Experience with automated reporting tools.
  • Creative, inventive, and passionate about solving new problems.
  • Track record of leading multi-functional initiatives and collaborating with engineering and product teams.
  • 3+ years of experience mentoring other data scientists.

  • Experience in the autonomous driving industry.
  • Experience in C++.
