Role Overview: Staff Data Engineer

As a Staff Data Engineer at Pachama, you will spearhead the development of advanced data systems that underpin our initiatives to restore and protect global forest lands. You will be a crucial part of the Digital Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (DMRV) team, focusing on building, scaling, and deploying robust systems for data ingestion, storage, and computation. These systems enhance our AI and Remote Sensing capabilities, empowering customers to identify and develop top-tier nature based projects.

Key Responsibilities

Impact: Facilitate our interdisciplinary team and clients by constructing data pipelines for our rich geospatial and remote sensing datasets, enabling the generation of essential insights for project origination.

Technical Leadership and Innovation: Provide strategic direction and innovative solutions for cross-functional projects. Connect product values across teams with foundational designs and technologies, shaping the future of our data systems.

Advocacy and Mentorship: Champion best practices in data pipeline management and computation, mentoring team members to enhance efficiency and effectiveness across engineering projects.

Hands-On Contribution: Directly code and optimize the tools and systems necessary for engineering and scientific teams to generate high-quality data insights for forest carbon projects.

Needed Experience & Skills

Candidates should have robust experience in leading extensive cross-team engineering projects, expertise in data engineering, and strong software engineering principles. Proficiency in Python, experience with distributed compute technologies, and a passion for rapid execution in a startup environment are essential. A firm commitment to environmental sustainability is crucial for success in this role.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with geospatial data, familiarity with distributed systems concepts, and previous involvement with ML applications are highly advantageous but not mandatory.
