Job Description

The Role

Checkout.com is seeking an ambitious Staff Data Engineer to be part of our Data Platform Team. Our goal is to develop a world-class data platform to fuel our products and analytics.

The role of the Data Platform team is to streamline the process for internal stakeholders to collect, store, process, and utilize data to create products or reports to solve business issues. We strive to maximize the time business stakeholders spend addressing business problems and minimizing time consumed by implementation, deployment, and regulating their solutions.

We're geared towards scalability. Consequently, much of what we design and execute today will be the technological infrastructure serving hundreds of teams and managing data at the petabyte level.

Hybrid Working Model: Our offices globally operate on-site three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday). We've worked towards enabling teams to work collaboratively in the same space and partner with colleagues worldwide. While in the office, we provide exceptional snacks, breakfast, and lunch options at all our locations.

How you'll make a difference

  • Work with stream processing technologies (Kafka, kSQL & Flink) to construct a large-scale, always-on event streaming platform
  • Utilize expertise to provide leadership, mentoring, and strategic influence across the organization while building robust relationships with engineers and managers
  • Create lightweight tooling and related reference patterns to encourage the adoption of the streaming platform, enabling upstream teams and systems to publish data and launch streaming applications using industry best practices
  • Implement all necessary infrastructure to allow end users to build, host, monitor, and deploy their own streaming applications
  • Offer consultation across the technology organization to drive platform adoption and enable event-driven use-cases
  • Participate, decipher, run, and execute the collection of requirements and architectural/design initiatives into action plans
  • Provide hands-on support for all event-driven systems, including incident triage and root cause analysis

Qualifications

What we're looking for

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence engineering organizations
  • Solid engineering background with a history of implementing and managing event streaming platforms
  • Experience with stream technologies, primarily Kafka, but also Kinesis
  • Experience in designing and implementing stream processing applications (kStreams, kSQL, Flink, Spark Streaming)
  • Experience working with current cloud-based stacks like AWS (MSK, S3, Lambda, ECS, SNS) techniques and tools
  • Exceptional programming skills in at least one of Python, Java, Scala, and C#
  • You're cooperative and always ready to work with others to resolve complex issues
  • You're attentive, always seeking to understand the root problems before proposing solutions
  • You're outspoken and capable of driving through best practices by pushing teams and organizations as a whole along with you
  • You are a thought leader, and we'd be interested in seeing your articles, podcasts, meetups, or conference talks if you've done any
