Staff Data Scientist - Promise and Sourcing Applied AI Team - Walmart Global Tech

Position Overview

Join Walmart's Promise and Sourcing Applied AI team as a Staff Data Scientist specializing in Advanced Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Reinforcement Learning. We're seeking a tech lead to drive the ML system and roadmap for the renovation of Walmart's Promise and Sourcing Engine. You'll leverage your expertise in Data Science, e-commerce, and promise and sourcing recommendations to play a crucial role in AI product development and deployment, mentoring fellow data scientists, and collaborating with the product and engineering teams.

About the Team

The Promise and Sourcing Applied AI team focuses on optimizing customer promise and sourcing options, impacting both the customer journey and supply chain logistics planning and execution. Our mission is to drive scientific excellence and scalability within Walmart's Supply Chain and Store Ops Applied AI Organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect Machine Learning Solutions: Develop future-proof machine learning solutions starting from abstract business problems.
  • Data Exploration & Analysis: Analyze massive data sets using advanced data exploration, processing, and analysis techniques.
  • Model Development: Create state-of-the-art predictive models using ML, deep learning, and data mining techniques.
  • Scalable Solutions: Design low-latency services to host predictive models and productionize prototypes on the cloud.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Present project results to stakeholders and represent Walmart at both internal and external conferences.
  • Research & Development: Develop complex algorithms and techniques to solve intricate business problems.
  • Core Contributions: Utilize extensive knowledge in ML and Software Engineering to enhance the team’s core machine learning capabilities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Optimization, or a related field plus 7 years of experience in ML/DL, or a PhD with a minimum of 3 years in industry.
  • Technical expertise in machine learning, deep learning, statistical analysis, and software development.
  • Proficient in Python, TensorFlow, Keras, and data mining.
  • Experience with large datasets and cloud computing environments like Hive, Spark, GCP, or Azure.
  • Strong coding abilities in SQL, Python, Java, or JavaScript.
  • Proven innovation track record (e.g., Medium blogs, patents, conference presentations).
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional team collaboration.
  • Experience in technical leadership or architect roles providing technical and architectural guidance.
