Role Overview: Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Trust Screenings

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer within our Trust Screenings team, your expertise will help fortify the backbone of our trust and safety initiatives. This pivotal role focuses on enhancing physical world safety by proactively identifying risks through innovative data analysis and machine learning strategies. You will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and customer operations to refine and advance our predictive capabilities, ensuring the safety and security of our platform's users.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and refine machine learning models to predict and prevent incidents of physical harm and property damage.
  • Work with a variety of structured and unstructured data sets, enhancing Airbnb's operational and product offerings through advanced algorithmic solutions.
  • Create synergies with other trust and safety teams to develop comprehensive prevention strategies.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, and data scientists to design and deploy scalable solutions for real-time and batch processing fraud detection systems.

Who You Are

Your qualifications include:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in applied Machine Learning, with a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in CS/ML or a closely related field.
  • Robust programming skills in Scala, Python, Java, C++, or similar languages.
  • A deep understanding of ML best practices and a proven track record of implementing high-scale machine learning models.
  • Experience with technologies like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Kubernetes, Spark, and Airflow.
  • Prior involvement with large, high-scale software applications is highly regarded, particularly in the Trust and Risk domains.

Location and Inclusion

This full-time position is remote-eligible in the US, with the flexibility to work from states where Airbnb has a registered entity. Occasional visits to Airbnb offices or attendance at team offsites might be required.

Compensation and Benefits

The base annual salary range for this position is $204,000 to $259,000, depending on experience and qualifications. This role may also be eligible for additional bonuses, equity, and benefits, including Employee Travel Credits.
