About the Role: Sustainability Data Analyst

This position on our newly formed Investment Sustainability Solutions Team focuses on developing and supporting analytical and research initiatives to integrate sustainability into investment processes. It requires a strong quantitative background, data analysis proficiency, and a solid understanding of the financial industry, particularly asset management.

The successful candidate will advance our data research and analytics, synthesize key sustainability insights, and drive effective internal collaboration. Preferred candidates will have knowledge of regulatory and voluntary frameworks and advanced data analysis techniques.

Key Responsibilities

Analytics

Support the development of in-house analytical approaches to help cross-asset class investment teams understand sustainability-related risks, impacts, and opportunities.

Research

Assist the team in thematic research projects, such as biodiversity, climate, and water. Identify relevance to our investment teams and build tools to facilitate integration into the investment process where appropriate.

Sustainability Data Vendor Due Diligence

Understand methodologies, data sources, and their integration within the investment management process.

Stakeholder Engagement

Engage and support Franklin Templeton's multiple investment teams as primary stakeholders. Additional key stakeholders include Technology, Product, Regulatory Reporting, Investment Risk, Investment Compliance, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Sales & Distribution.

Collaboration with Academia and Fintech

Collaborate where appropriate to enhance our sustainability initiatives.

Ideal Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Required

  • Solid background in a quantitative discipline (data science, mathematics, physics, engineering, finance, economics), with experience in data analytics applied to real-world financial and sustainability problems.
  • Experience in the financial industry, preferably in asset management, with an understanding of sustainability-related investment risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a global, hybrid environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication of complex data.
  • Proficiency in programming with an emphasis on data analysis (Python preferred).
  • Commitment to high standards in data accuracy and clarity in analysis and visualizations.

Preferred

  • Understanding of regulatory and voluntary frameworks relevant to the sustainability domain.
  • Proven ability to apply quantitative methods to solve complex problems in various contexts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of various investment instruments.
  • Experience with advanced data analysis techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
  • Familiarity with ESG metrics and their application in sustainability research.
