Job Summary

The Vehicle Systems Division (VSD) is at the epicenter of the ideas and data behind current and future systems, supplying innovative research, technical evaluations, conceptual and detailed design, assembly, integration, testing, and operational support. Comprised primarily of highly-trained mechanical and aerospace engineers, VSD excels in vehicle engineering, guidance, navigation, controls, robotics, electro-mechanical devices, embedded systems, fluid mechanics, propulsion, thermal control, orbital mechanics, mechanisms, structures, structural dynamics, and dynamic environments. We are seeking highly talented and motivated candidates to join our growing Trajectory Design and Optimization Department.

Position Details

Role: Trajectory Optimization Analyst (Member of Technical Staff- Flight Mechanics / Senior Member of Technical Staff- Flight Mechanics)

Location: El Segundo, CA or Colorado Springs, CO. Role requires 100% onsite work with occasional remote flexibility.

What You’ll Be Doing

Support the evolving U.S. national space enterprise by tackling the hardest and most complex flight mechanics, optimization, and astrodynamics problems from conceptual design studies through operations and end-of-life phases.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements for Member of Technical Staff- Flight Mechanics:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical, astronautical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or related disciplines
  • 2 years of experience in flight mechanics, maneuver optimization, hypersonic vehicle modeling, or trajectory modeling and simulation, particularly in non-traditional orbit regimes
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C, C++, Fortran, Python, or MATLAB
  • Knowledge of optimization theory and advanced numerical methods
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (approximately 10%)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (U.S. citizenship required)

Additional Requirements for Senior Member of Technical Staff- Flight Mechanics:

  • 5 years of applicable professional experience in the above-mentioned fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in aeronautical, astronautical engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or related disciplines
  • 8 years of applicable professional experience
  • Graduate-level coursework, research, and/or experience in orbit mechanics, hypersonic flight simulation, optimal control, flight mechanics, trajectory modeling, and simulation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS//SSBI (SCI) clearance

Compensation

The compensation package for this role is competitive and performance-based, with salaries ranging from $95,200 to $165,500 annually. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including education, experience, knowledge, and skills.
