Join Recursion as Vice President of Computational Biology

Your work will change lives. Including your own.

Recursion's Platform

The Recursion OS is our cutting-edge platform for industrializing drug discovery, integrating digital and physical workflows to automate therapeutic program initiation and optimization through data-driven automation. These workflows validate biological insights from high-dimensional in vitro profiling and optimize chemical matter using experimental data, ML predictions, and patient datasets. Additionally, it harnesses Recursion’s unique “maps of biology” system, combining genome-scale reverse genetics and chemical profiling to predict trillions of relationships between biological perturbations and therapeutic candidates.

Role Overview

As the Vice President of Computational Biology, you will be instrumental in setting the strategy and implementing the integration of data from our genome-scale -omics platforms with population- and patient-derived genetics. Leverage advanced analytics, including ML and data science, to identify and validate target selection, disease and patient linkages to our -omics phenotypes, advancing precision medicine through the development of translational biomarkers and patient selection.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the strategy for industrializing the process of identifying diseases and patients for novel gene-compound inferences using population and clinical genetics, combined with machine learning methods across monogenic and polygenic conditions.
  • Lead efforts to identify disease and patient linkages to our -omics phenotypes and validate translational biomarkers and patient selection solutions, driving precision medicine for our therapies.
  • Develop and implement computational tools, including ML/DS approaches, algorithms, and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the strategy for collecting patient genetic and biomarker data from Recursion clinical trials for reverse translation, and support data and diagnostic partnerships for the Recursion OS and clinical portfolio.
  • Collaborate with leaders in discovery biology, chemistry, and data science to expedite the delivery of therapeutic programs to the clinic with machine-learning-driven optimization.
  • Guide teams of computational biologists and data scientists to execute strategies that transform maps into medicines and recruit, mentor, and manage high-performing teams working in oncology, neuroscience, and other therapeutic areas.

Success in this role will be defined by the impact on the industrialization of program initiation using genetic/genomic insights and progression to development with validated biomarker strategies.

The Team You'll Join

As the Computational Biology VP, you will report to the Chief R&D Officer and Chief Commercial Officer, joining a diverse leadership team. Collaborate with peers in data science, biology, chemistry, and engineering to drive both current execution and future industrialization in Recursion’s core therapeutic areas (oncology, neuroscience) and beyond.

The Experience You'll Need

  • 7+ years of expertise in computational biology leveraging ML across drug discovery and development, with key experience in functional and statistical genetics with high-dimensional -omics data for target identification, mechanistic fine-mapping, and biomarker development.
  • A proven record of integrating large-scale patient/population datasets with in vitro functional genomics and ML to identify targets, models, and biomarkers with patient connectivity and validity.
  • Experience developing and implementing patient stratification and precision medicine solutions in clinical development, with a solid understanding of regulatory considerations.
  • Proven track record of hiring, managing, and mentoring multiple teams in drug discovery activities within a matrixed environment.
  • Curiosity and professional skills to excel in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.

Location

Preference for candidates who can base themselves in one of our offices – Salt Lake City, Toronto, Montreal, London. Remote work is possible with regular on-site visits for routine work and events.
