Job Description About This Role We are seeking a highly motivated Imaging Scientist to lead pre-clinical and clinical imaging discovery and application efforts within our Translational Sciences team. This crucial role will provide strategic and scientific leadership to impact both drug discovery and development. The job holder will lead a cross-functional team and oversee internal/external collaborations and vendor relationships to deliver on goals. Your team will be responsible for implementing translational imaging strategies supporting the discovery, characterization or in-licensing of imaging biomarkers designed to study how drugs are engaging therapeutic targets in the relevant tissue of interest. You will be accountable for building our clinical imaging strategy and the successful execution of imaging assessments and endpoints in collaboration with other clinical functions and development teams. You will be responsible for image data acquisition and analysis and will collaborate closely with other quantitative disciplines (Clinical Pharmacology and Biostatistics) to extract meaningful information on drug exposure relationships. Reporting to the Head of Translational Sciences this role will contribute to our mission to develop and implement translational models, assays, and biomarkers to drive decision making across the R&D continuum. What You'll Do You will lead a team of experimental, analytical, and clinical imaging scientists to implement imaging modalities to support our portfolio for Research, Development and Medical. You will be responsible for the application of imaging in our clinical trials to allow the selection of the right patient for the right therapy, demonstration of target engagement, proof-of-biology and/or disease-modifying effects of investigational therapies. Provide domain expertise on appropriate imaging modalities for the program needs, articulate the scientific and operational feasibility and risks associated with different strategies; oversee the planning and execution of clinical trials, clinical protocols, and regulatory documents/filings. You will ensure optimal analysis, interpretation, and communication of imaging data to project teams and executive leaders to advance program decision making. Represent Imaging on technical & governance committees and disease strategy teams and ensure project teams have qualified imaging support when needed. Survey the external landscape for innovation that will impact our portfolio and establish strong partnerships with external collaborators, organizations, technology partners to identify and advance novel imaging approaches to support our pipeline. Operate to annual plan budgets and contribute to long-range financial planning. You interact effectively, deliver clear, concise communication of technically complex material that is easily understood, persuasive and actionable to cross-functional teams, senior leaders, and external stakeholders including regulatory agencies. Qualifications Required Skills PhD or MD/PhD in neuroscience, biomedical sciences, radiochemistry, or related field with relevant industry experience (biotech/pharma/CRO setting) in neuroimaging applied to drug discovery and clinical trials. Hands-on research experience in disease areas such as Alzheimer’s disease, or other CNS disorders with expertise in one or more of molecular, functional, structural imaging modality Scientific and operational expertise in applying neuroimaging to clinical trials with demonstrated experience in clinical trial imaging. Knowledgeable of the strengths, limitations of these tools and considerations related to the implementation in global clinical trials. Proven scientific leadership and management of high performing individuals and cross-functional teams – direct experience managing scientists is required. Over 10 years of experience in molecular imaging with demonstrated accomplishments in testing new imaging tools in humans for their characterization and validation. Strong working knowledge of pre-clinical imaging approaches to support drug discovery Familiar with and able to consider other biomarker tools within a broader biomarker strategy for disease areas and asset programs. Resourceful and self-motivated with a track record of productive research, leadership, and collaboration. Strong and effective communication, interpersonal relationship skills with ability to work in large and diverse teams. Additional Information Why Biogen?
