The Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) is a non-profit international research institute committed to food, nutrition and livelihood security, along with environmental rehabilitation in South Asia, home to over 300 million undernourished people. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and self-motivated professional for the position of Data Analytics. We expect the candidate to contribute to the work on either a) climatic risk analysis, b) spatial modelling, or c) designing improved insurance products. The position will be based in Delhi. The main responsibilities of this position will be: - To support research on climate risk assessment and identify adaptation solutions including insurance and digital advisory services. - Assist, as required, in the spatial modelling activities and be responsible for preparation and handling large datasets, spatial analyses and mapping. - Assist in developing UI/UX together with a software company, project team, and nodal agencies in South Asian countries. - Assist in training programs in South Asia on the above topics. - Document results for reports, blogs, and journal publications. - Contribute to the other activities as assigned by the supervisor. Requirements: We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications, skills, and attitudes: - PhD or masters degree in data science, climatology, agro-meteorology, physics, soil science, remote sensing, hydrology, Actuarial Science, Econometrics, Operational research, Statistics or related disciplines. - Evidence of some work or research experience in one of the following three: o handling and processing large global or regional gridded data sets and climate risk analysis. o spatial modelling linking large spatial and temporal data sets of climate soils with crop models. o spatial risk analysis and insurance. o Excellent programming skills in R or Python or Stata and related. - The selected candidate must also exhibit the following competencies: Decision-making, Proactivity, Teamwork, Communication, and Multi-Cultural Awareness. The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds.
