This is a hybrid role based in our West Hollywood or San Francisco office and will require you to be in office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
As a Senior Data Scientist at Grindr, you will collaborate closely with product managers, product designers, and engineers to establish insightful metrics, design experiments, utilize your statistical know-how to guide critical decisions, and build visualizations. This is an opportunity to work on models that are introduced to production and improve the quality of life for our millions of users. You will also act as an informal ambassador for the Data Science team to the rest of the company, shedding light on the many unintuitive facets of data science for a diverse group.
You will join the data organization at Grindr, which combines data scientists, analysts, and engineers into a single unified, cooperative team. This rare chance allows you to learn, instruct, and make a significant impact alongside top minds in the field.
What's the job?
- Extract actionable insights from broad, vague questions
- Create and assess experiments to measure the effect of product changes
- Analyze data from across the product to identify the root causes of metric fluctuations
- Communicate results to cross-functional stakeholders for informed product decisions
- Develop tools to expand and automate analyses, enhancing productivity across the company
- Offer mentoring and guidance to team members + propose and recommend best practices
- Develop Machine Learning solutions to enhance recommendations, detect spam, and better aid our users
- Apply an engineering outlook: minimize complexity while maximizing utility and maintainability
What we'll love about you
- BS or higher in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, a related quantitative field, or equivalent experience
- Over 4 years of industry data science experience
- Proficiency in effectively communicating and cooperating with non-technical stakeholders
- A profound grasp of the "why" behind your work, not just the how
- Strong Python skills in data analysis using pandas and Jupyter Notebook
- Expertise in software engineering best practices: git, modular design, DRY, etc.
- Experience in writing and enhancing complex SQL queries on large data sets
- A solid background in inferential statistics, especially in an experimentation setting (hypothesis testing, power analysis, experimental design)
- A solid machine learning background with a deep understanding of when ML is the right tool and the nuanced science of creating models that function well in real-world scenarios
- Experience in big data technologies like Spark

This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will also be eligible for equity, benefits, and a company bonus program.
