Data Engineering at Nubank
We aim for cutting-edge data engineering practices which currently includes a mix of technologies. Our Data Engineering department provides horizontal and democratic platforms to support various business units across Nubank. Our challenges are to create, maintain, and evolve technology solutions to accommodate analytical data processing needs expanding by 4x every year, share best practices and develop tools to improve data integrity and consistency.
- A multi-cloud data platform that is created under the engineering paradigm
- To maintain a highly democratic data environment, we utilize platforms like Databricks, BigQuery, and Looker to deliver a comprehensive data experience for a large and diverse audience with varying degrees of data-literacy. Presently, more than a thousand Nubankers use our platform on a weekly basis
- Horizontally scalable microservices primarily composed in Clojure, using Finagle and taking advantage of functional programming methods and hexagonal architecture
- High throughput jobs and inter-service communication utilizing Kafka
- Continuous Integration and Deployment into AWS
- Data storage in Datomic and DynamoDB
- Monitoring and observability with Prometheus
- Running as much as possible in Kubernetes

We understand that achievement is essential and streamline processes to remove roadblocks. As a Tech Manager in Data Platform, you'll be expected to
- Build or scale up a data platform team focused on data ingestion
- Encourage a culture of teamwork, feedback, and continuous improvement
- Conduct effective 1:1s, team meetings, and rituals
- Manage individuals, enabling them to be high performers and support others
- Deliver distributed systems at scale
- Align stakeholders around team’s vision, goals, and metrics
- Deliberate on data and software architecture design choices
- Identify and implement improvements in how we work and organize
Once here, you will
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the data platform at Nubank
- Coach and mentor a team of data engineers, supporting their growth and performance within their respective teams
- Facilitate continuous improvement of team’s processes
- Ensure the team adheres to solid development processes, aligns internally and with stakeholders
- Guarantee that the team maintains a high level of operational excellence
- Proactively drive and improve recruitment of new talent
- Promote psychological safety and facilitate conflict resolution and performance issues
We are looking for a professional who has
- Substantial experience leading Data Engineering teams, ideally focused on data platform, data infrastructure or data engineering
- Exposure to large-scale and distributed data environments and with highly reliable systems
- Experience with either micro-batch streaming or real-time streaming
- Experience being accountable for people management, having exposure to performance assessment, hiring, supporting career growth, etc.
- Experience leading agile teams, being familiar with the most relevant ceremonies, metrics, and processes
- A satisfactory level of technical understanding, capable of participating in architecture discussions with Data Engineers and capable of translating complex, technical projects and concepts for non-engineers
- Advanced English, you will be part of a global team distributed between Germany and Brazil
