The Data Science and Engineering team at Asana constructs the company's essential data pipelines and tools. In partnership with teams all around the company, these tools drive crucial product and business decisions using metrics, experiments, and predictive models.
As a Data Scientist Intern at Asana, you'll have a key role in helping us ask the right questions and provide rigorous answers. In close connection with our Product and Business teams, you'll understand their objectives and proactively guide their direction using data. You'll keep acquiring new responsibilities as you progress, from defining central metrics to constructing machine learning models and maintaining the data flow in our pipelines.
This role is based in our New York City office, operating on an office-centric hybrid schedule. Like most Asanas, you'll work from this office in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Most Asanas also have the option to work from home on Wednesdays and Fridays. What you'll achieve:
- Design and analyze experiments to measure the impact of new product features
- Investigate high-level questions like "What are the collaborative patterns of the most successful teams using Asana?"
- Add new metrics and aggregations to our data warehouse to enable answering new classes of questions
- Build models to predict the growth trajectory of different customer segments
About you:
- Strong technical background in computer science, statistics, math, information science, or another quantitative field
- Fluency in at least one modern language useful for data processing (e.g. Python, Scala)
- Proficiency with relational data modeling and SQL
- Expertise in statistical methods and experimental design and analysis
- Experience with distributed data processing systems (e.g. Spark, Redshift)
- Background in advanced statistical modeling (e.g. GLM, mixed effects) and/or machine learning

For this role, the estimated pay rate is $64.75 per hour. This rate will vary based on various factors, such as market conditions and individual qualifications assessed objectively during the interview process. The listed pay rate above is a guideline and may be modified.
