Why this role?
We are on a mission to build machines that understand the world and make them safely accessible to everyone. Data quality is fundamental to this process. Machines (or Large Language Models, to be precise) learn much like humans do - through feedback. By labeling, ranking, auditing, and correcting text output, you will enhance the Large Language Model's efficiency for future iterations, thus having a long-lasting impact on Cohere’s technology. Cohere is seeking dynamic and committed Data Annotators with exceptional skills in French writing and translation.
Please Note: This is a part-time independent contractor position. We are looking for candidates who can commit to a minimum of 12 hours per week at a $30/hour contract rate. This role is BYOD 💻 - Bring Your Own Device (laptop). Performance incentives are included!
As a Data Quality Specialist, you will:
- Label and Rank: Accurately label and rank machine learning data with advanced proficiency in French, ensuring data integrity and quality.
- Audit and Fix: Examine and correct any inaccuracies in the French language data, maintaining the highest standard of data accuracy.
- Read and Complete Text-Based Assignments: Efficiently finish reading and text-based tasks in French, with great attention to detail.
- Perform Preference-Based Tasks: Evaluate and complete tasks, determining which responses in French best adhere to our style guide.
- Recommend Optimizations: Identify and suggest opportunities to improve data quality and model performance pertaining to French language tasks.
- Provide Feedback: Collaborate and communicate effectively, providing feedback to cross-functional team members, especially on matters related to the French language.
- Execute Tasks with Detail-Oriented Precision: Ensure meticulous attention to detail while performing repetitive and exact tasks, particularly when dealing with French language data.

- Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in French with a good command of English.
- Excellent reading and writing skills - which you are ready to demonstrate in our written test.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy - you’re the type to proofread all of your emails!
- A high capacity for monotonous and repetitive work.
- Ability to follow complex instructions, navigate ambiguity and work independently.
- Great sense of urgency and time management.
- A curiosity about technology and an ability to solve problems in creative ways.
- A reliable laptop that you are able to bring to the office.
The Candidate Journey:
- Initial screening - Once you have submitted your application, our Talent Team will review your resume and writing samples.
- Virtual Meet & Greet - If selected, you will have a short video call with a member of our Annotation Team!
- Practical Assessment - This test will evaluate your written skills through several language-based tasks, such as writing samples, interacting with a chat bot, and more.
