At Render, we are building a powerful, user-friendly cloud platform to host anything online: from simple static websites to complex applications with dozens of microservices. Render provides the adaptability of traditional cloud providers without their complexity and maintenance difficulties, allowing developers and businesses to concentrate on creating products rather than managing servers.
We are a talented and diverse team tackling a problem encountered by every development team. We continuously improve and emphasize user experience, quality, and reliability. We always strive to improve. With tens of thousands of customers and significantly increasing revenue, we were onto something big.
Applying to Render:
We seek candidates with high integrity, minimal ego, and an insatiable drive to learn. We use reasoned discussion and regular feedback to improve as individuals and as a company. We nurture mutual trust and respect, enabling us to debate ideas effectively and generate the best outcomes for our clients and our team.
We particularly encourage members of underrepresented groups in the tech community to apply.
Our interview procedure is unique for each role, and we value the candidate experience as much as our customer experience. We hope your discussions with us show a thoughtful process that is enlightening, enjoyable, and respectful of your time.
About the role:
As the founding member of the Data Science department at Render, you'll work closely with partners across engineering, product, and marketing. You'll play a key role in cultivating the data culture at Render, as well as contributing to the data and analytical groundwork to enhance the product and inform decision-making.
You will:
- Collaborate with our Product and Marketing team to define, standardize, and refine core growth metrics, and build dashboards and reports.
- Define and track product use and funnel metrics, identify user cohorts, and use this information to suggest product improvements.
- Create heuristics or models to identify events of interest such as high-potential user signups or churn.
- Collaborate with engineers to improve logging and data models to better support analytics.
- Work closely with teammates in Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Finance - utilising data to influence pricing decisions, offering input on marketing experiments, and encouraging a data-driven mindset and enabling others to define high-quality metrics.
We are seeking someone who is:
- Experienced with product analytics, metrics, and modeling, with 4 or more years in a Data Science role. Experience in data infrastructure is also a bonus.
- Someone who has a history of high ownership and initiative. You're excited to be our first dedicated Data Scientist and are eager to help us plot the path forward.
- Cross-functional and can effectively communicate data to team members with different skill sets and experiences.
- Expert in SQL and scripting languages like Python and comfortable with Jupyter notebooks. Our data stack is SQL (PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Metabase), ETL (data build tool, Stitch), and product analytics (Segment, Mixpanel).
Benefits:
- Our openings span more than one career level. The starting salary for this role is between $180,000 and $210,000 USD. The provided salary depends on factors such as work experience and transferable skills, business needs and impact, and market demands.
- This opportunity also qualifies for equity with early exercise options and extended exercise windows.
- Fully paid 12 weeks of parental leave for all parents to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child, plus an extra 5 days off in your first few weeks back. We will collaborate with you to create a supportive plan of return.
