The Database Operations Department, a part of Vattenfall IT, oversees the delivery and operation of the majority of Vattenfall's database solutions. We are currently seeking new Database Administrators (DBA) for our department. Your primary duties as a DBA:

As a Database Administrator, your role consists of delivering database services and its supporting services, in line with the agreed service levels. Our services are principally built on SQL Server and Oracle, including associated complementary services such as HA, DW, replication, and security features. We recently included PostGreSQL as an OpenSource alternative and designated it the official third platform.

Being a DBA entails being involved in both the development and implementation of solutions, as well as managing the operation of these database services through their life cycle (LCM) - with an emphasis on service operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and managing projects for new and existing database solutions.
  • Installations, upgrades, documentation, testing, commissioning and configurations.
  • Providing second-line support and maintenance (on-call duty is occasionally required).
  • Actively participating in problem and root cause analysis (incident/problem management).
  • Actively participating in project work and if needed, undertaking internal development activities both inside our organization and in projects.
  • Proactively working with monitoring/statistics and analyzing the performance/availability of the supplied database solutions, reporting to the customer, management, technicians, or similar.
  • Conducting investigative work (both internally and externally in the form of projects).
  • Work is conducted both in Agile and DevOps methodologies as well as through our Vattenfall project model (VPMM).

Gliwice, Katowice, Berlin, Hamburg, or Cottbus.

Qualifications

Who are you?

As our Database Administrator, you possess a strong analytical ability and a flexible mindset. You take responsibility for your own tasks and are solution-oriented. You have the ability to understand and express IT and business needs in a structured way. You are service-oriented, calm, attentive, and accommodating. You have the interest, ability and willingness to assist others and work hard to deliver solutions, being "Customer centric/first".

In addition, you bring:

  • Several years of experience in database operations, mainly with SQL Server and Oracle, and have recently worked with Open Source database solutions (PostGreSQL).
  • Knowledge of additional features such as security, HA, and monitoring/data analysis is a merit.
  • Wide knowledge and experience of the surrounding technical infrastructure (server, storage, network) and security is necessary.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in OS administration (Microsoft and Linux/Unix).
  • Experience in working with ITIL both theoretically and practically is very important.
  • Experience in leading/participating in incident, change, problem, and configuration management.
  • Experience in project work; project management skills are also a merit.
  • Fluency in English is a must, both verbal and written (Knowledge of Swedish, German, or Dutch is an advantage).
