Job Description

To support this challenge, the North America Discovery Breeding team is searching for an intern to cooperate with our discovery breeders and data scientists on innovative projects that introduce new innovations, methods, and technologies to product development, ultimately shaping the future of Syngenta's breeding pipeline.

Qualifications
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of plant breeders & data scientists in analytical activities needed for maintaining an active corn or soy discovery breeding program
- Gather, transform, and structure large datasets for genetic or statistical analysis
- Integrate different types of data (genomic data, performance data, etc.) to provide predictive and prescriptive insights
- Enhance existing analytical methodologies and identify innovative solutions that balance theory and practical industrial scale workings
- Connect with stakeholders to communicate key results
- Uphold Syngenta's Health, Safety, & Environmental (HSE) standards
Education & Experience:
- The candidate must be currently pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Quantitative Genetics, Population Genetics, Agronomy, Statistics, Genomics, Animal or Plant Breeding, or related field
- Must be a current student continuing education beyond the term of the internship (May 2024 through December 2024)
- All applicants must be eligible to work in the US
Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (Python, R etc.)
- Familiarity with Linux shell scripting in a cloud environment is a plus
- Scientific curiosity and a passion for creative problem-solving
- Ability to communicate complex concepts and outcomes in a clear, actionable manner
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfort working both independently and within a team
- Proactive approach towards assigned targets and goals
- Prior experience in data cleaning and management is strongly desired
