About the Data & Analytics Team

The Data & Analytics team is composed of data analysts, data engineers and analytics engineers striving to produce the most effective platform and tools to uncover opportunities, develop data products, and make informed decisions at Mediavine. We collaborate with Product, Support, Marketing, and Revenue departments, as well as other teams within the Engineering department to comprehend behavior, develop precise predictors, and construct solutions that offer the best internal and external experiences possible.

Position Title & Overview:

The data engineering team at Mediavine is expanding and further enhancing our ability to facilitate the business while also branching into our ventures. With this growth, we are seeking someone with a technical data engineering background to manage our backend development work and set high standards for all our data engineers.

The tech lead for data engineering will collaborate with our project manager to define cards, assign points, and manage due dates in JIRA. They will be the primary contact for questions pertaining to data back-end work from other teams. They will partake in staffing discussions and lead technical recruitment for new data engineers and analytic engineers.

The tech lead will create and maintain the team's standards, ensuring the adoption and reinforcement of industry-leading best practices. Besides their leadership duties, they will actively contribute to projects via hands-on coding and collaboration.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Facilitate grooming sessions, daily stand-ups, sprint prep and other sprint-related ceremonies
• Perform code reviews for teammates
• Prepare our analysts for success with well-organized and highly detailed cards
• Work towards unblocking our analysts as required
• Communicate with Product, Engineering Managers, and stakeholders to comprehend the context and the broader picture
• Establish clear standards and expectations for our reporting and analysis
• Help the analysts grasp how their work contributes to the business goals
• Assist in defining the vision and roadmap for data engineering and develop the future architecture, systems, and processes
• Collaborate with senior management on the execution of key projects and initiatives
• Act as the technical point of contact for data engineering queries
• Proactively communicate challenges, roadblocks, and timelines to engineering management and stakeholders
• Conduct technical interviews for future openings on the team
• Produce high-quality code that can serve as the standard for other developers

Requirements

You Have:

• Over 7 years of experience in a data engineering role
• Over 5 years of experience working in Agile methodology
• Exceptionally strong Python skills
• Exceptionally strong SQL skills
• Experience working with cloud data warehouses on a large scale
• Experience with dimensional database design
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)

Additional desirable attributes:

• Experience developing data products
• Familiarity with Ad Tech, Google Ad Manager, SSPs, etc.
• The ability to make your teammates laugh
• Experience with dbt
• Experience with one or more leading BI tools
