Job Description
The Senior Data Engineer will be part of a team working in a collaborative DataOps atmosphere, composed of data engineers, data scientists, and visualization and analytics experts drawn from IT and R&D teams.
Specific duties include:
- Supporting an analytical data infrastructure providing application, tool, and ad-hoc access to extensive datasets composed of intricate data types including genomic, phenotypic, environmental, image, and geospatial data.
- Processing substantial data using Big Data tools and technologies like Spark, Hadoop, and Hive and extracting, transforming, and loading data using various tools.
- Engaging with business stakeholders to comprehend strategic roadmaps and formulating a technical strategy to support them.
- Deploying high-value, high-performance datasets in Snowflake.
- Creating and supporting real-time data pipelines built on AWS technologies including Glue, S3, Lambda, EMR, EventBridge, Athena, Kinesis, and IoT Core.
- Establishing end-to-end database architecture and data modeling in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Sybase and creating complex SQL queries, stored procedures and functions to implement business logic.
- Incorporating quality and intelligent reporting capabilities into data pipelines including detection of anomalies and changes in trends with meaningful alerts and statistics.
- Maintaining versions of code and implementing CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous deployment) pipelines using Github, Teamcity, Jenkins, and SVN.
- Constantly researching the latest big data and visualization technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency.
- Collaborating with data scientists and other tech teams to integrate advanced analytics algorithms into our data pipelines that exploit our rich datasets for statistical analysis, prediction, clustering, and machine learning.
- Aiding in the continuous improvement of automation and the simplification of data as a service.
- Performing work using cloud technologies including AWS, EC2, S3, Kinesis, Glue, Redshift/Spectrum, Lambda, EMR, Athena, Data Pipeline.
- Creating Graphical User Interfaces by coding in advanced HTML, Java, and JavaScript and creating various utilities through programming in Python, PowerShell, and Unix Shell Scripting.
The position is based at the company's headquarters in Greensboro, NC; employees may telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.
Qualifications
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline and 5 years of related (progressive, post-baccalaureate) experience.
Candidates must also have 12 months of experience (which may have been gained concurrently) with each of the following:
- Processing large data sets using Big Data tools and technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, and Hive, and extracting, transforming, and loading data using various ETL tools.
- Maintaining code versions and implementing CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous deployment) pipelines using Github, Teamcity, Jenkins, and SVN.
- Creating end-to-end database architecture and data modeling in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Sybase, and creating complex SQL queries, stored procedures and functions to implement business logic.
- Performing work using cloud technologies including AWS, EC2, S3, Kinesis, Glue, Redshift/Spectrum, Lambda, EMR, Athena, Data Pipeline.
