Retail Pricing Science and Research is a team of economists and ML scientists who design and implement the analytics powering pricing for Amazon’s online retail business. We are seeking an Applied Scientist to develop innovative pricing, promotions, and demand models that adapt to constantly shifting marketplace dynamics, all while scaling to hundreds of millions of products globally. Key job responsibilities: - You will partner with scientists, economists, engineers, and product leaders to break down complex pricing challenges, identify key requirements, innovate, design, and deploy appropriate scientific solutions, and successfully drive the creation of positive customer and business impact. - You translate business objectives into specific quantitative approaches that can be solved with the vast amount of available Amazon data. - You identify and propose new long term science initiatives, and lead planning and funding discussions with senior leadership. - You are passionate about people, and will act as a mentor and guide for other scientists in Pricing. - You have written and verbal communications skills to convey complicated process and systems to business partners and senior leadership with varying level of technical sophistication. About the team: Our team uses world-class analytics to make sure that the prices for all of Amazon’s goods and services are aligned with Amazon’s corporate goals. Our projects are at the intersection of economic theory, statistical inference, machine learning, and optimization theory. We tackle important and, often, ambiguous research questions with direct impact in Amazon pricing strategies. Our team members have the opportunity to present their research and proposals to the senior executive leaders, usually cross organizations. We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations: Seattle, WA, USA. Basic Qualifications: - PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience. - Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals. - Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language. - Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
