Job Overview
We are actively seeking a skilled Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst specialized in MS Power BI development with a substantial background in Data Science, including foundational knowledge in Generative AI and Machine Learning. This role is pivotal in designing, evolving, and deploying BI, Analytics, and AI/ML tools to optimize business operations and scientific decision-making processes at ORNL. This role is part of the Enterprise Applications group within the Applications Development division of the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
The main responsibilities include:
- Supporting ORNL’s Business Intelligence and data warehouse activities, spanning all corporate data areas (business, human capital management, facilities, operations, and research), with a focus on Microsoft and SAP technologies.
- Developing and supporting corporate reports and dashboards using PowerBI and other Microsoft reporting tools.
- Collaborating with business and scientific/technical stakeholders to gather detailed requirements.
- Analyzing emerging trends and technologies to recommend BI strategy roadmaps, incorporating Generative AI and ML techniques.
- Devising and implementing master data management strategies to ensure data accuracy, cleanliness, transformation, and accessibility.
- Collaborating with other DOE labs and private sector entities.
- Adhering to ORNL and ITSD project management and software quality assurance standards and ITIL effective practices.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Developing and supporting data warehouse technologies beyond Microsoft and SAP realms; applying AI and ML experience.
- Providing personal training for end users on Business Intelligence tools.

Basic Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have:
- A BS in computer science, data science, business analytics management, applied statistical analytics, or a related field with 5-7 years of relevant experience. Equivalent combinations of experience may be considered.
- For advanced degree holders:
- Masters: 4-6 years of relevant experience.
- PhD: 0-3 years of relevant experience.
- Extensive experience in Microsoft Business Intelligence development, including requirements gathering, design, and deployment of reporting solutions.
- Proven track record in creating BI solutions using MS Power BI, SQL, and MS Azure tools.
- Experience with Microsoft CoPilot, OpenAI tools, and API's for GPT creation, Large Language Models, Generative AI, or similar tools.
- A results-driven, curious self-starter capable of working both independently and as part of a BI team.
The candidate must also demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, client-facing skills, analytical thinking, attention to detail, and an ability to innovate and creatively solve problems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Power BI and data visualization.
- Familiarity with ETL (extract, transform, load) frameworks.
- Understanding of multidimensional and tabular modeling.
- Experience using SQL Server tools (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code, Python.
- Experience with Data Science or Data Analytic tools.
