Chief Big Data Engineer

The Role

We are seeking a Principal Big Data Engineer to guide and shape our data division so as to deliver scalable data and analytics solutions, implement our own data platform and engage in solution design and architecture discussions. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, demonstrated data design and implementation abilities, and a drive to deliver results. The person in this role will be technically efficient and adept at collaboration and will stay updated on emerging technologies, methods and best practices. This person will be self-starting, and will enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

The Team

Our Data division is a part of our Data & AI tribe and is made of several data engineering teams with diverse backgrounds and expertise in many fields amongst which are Spark / Scala / Python / Databricks / Delta lake / Azure Data Factory / Azure Data Warehouse / Azure DevOps / Terraform.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the design and development of a scalable and secure Big Data Platform aligned with the Data Mesh concept;
• Tune data pipelines, ETL processes, and data storage for performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability;
• Help in implementing data security and compliance policies in line with industry standards;
• Stay updated on emerging technologies, methods, and industry best practices to facilitate continuous improvement of the data platform;
• Communicate effectively and provide technical insights within and outside of the organization on best practices for data architecture, technology choice, and solution design;
• Collaborate with management to find new potential talent.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing large-scale data processing systems;
• Demonstrated expertise with Azure and Databricks, including experience in designing and deploying data pipelines, analytics solutions, and storage architectures;
• Well-versed with the Data Mesh paradigm and its implementation in large organizations;
• Familiar with a broad array of big data technologies, such as Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Apache Kafka, Apache Flink and NoSQL databases;
• Proficiency in data modelling, data integration, data warehousing, and data quality management principles;
• Experience in implementing data security and compliance policies according to industry standards;
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly illustrate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences;
• Self-motivated and goal-oriented, with a passion for staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends.
