The Team
This role is within our dynamic Global Regulatory & Controls Technology team. As part of this highly skilled group, you will focus on developing and supporting mission-critical risk management and decision support systems for business users in the Scotiabank IT group.
The Role
As a Data Analyst specializing in Python and ETL, you will be responsible for creating and supporting comprehensive technical solutions for regulatory reporting of Scotia Capital Markets transactions. You will conduct root cause analysis, gather business requirements, and perform strong data and technical system analysis. You will be involved in solutioning, development, testing, and releasing to production. Your role will also include the timely resolution of high-priority production support tickets.
You'll collaborate closely with the broader project team, developers, scrum masters, regulatory stakeholders, trading systems, and downstream consumers. You will ensure that high-priority support tickets are resolved within SLAs and maintain high quality throughout. Over time, you will develop in-depth application and business process expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
- Work within a cross-functional Agile team to analyze and troubleshoot technical issues and production support tickets, delivering effective solutions.
- Gather requirements, design, implement, and test new features as part of regulatory initiatives.
- Perform advanced issue triage and ad-hoc data analysis and reporting.
- Collaborate with business users and IT teams across Canada, the US, and Asia on the design and prototyping of business solutions.
- Respond to ad hoc inquiries from stakeholders regarding G20 Regulatory Reporting logic and data requests.
- Stay current with rapidly changing technological trends and develop an understanding of the business and technology strategies.
- Analyze problems from both business and technical perspectives.
- Participate in other projects and initiatives as required.
Do You Have the Skills to Succeed?
Required Skills:
- Proven experience with data analysis and ETL using SQL, Python, Kafka, Jupyter, Java, XML, and JSON.
- Exceptional analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn quickly, work independently, and consistently go above and beyond.
- Experience with Apache Kafka, Postman, ElasticSearch, Kubernetes, Airflow, and/or Linux.
- Java coding ability is a strong asset.
- Understanding of Capital Markets products, front-office trading, and back-office booking processes globally.
- Ability to provide timely IT support to meet critical regulatory timelines.
- Proficient in team-building, working with diverse groups, and identifying efficiencies.
- Skilled in establishing relationships with internal customers and senior management.
- Degree in engineering, computer science, math, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
