Our Opportunity We currently have an opportunity to join IT team as a Data Engineer & BI Developer. This role will be primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the Power BI reporting for the business, supporting SMEs with their own reporting and governance as well as organising and run workshops to capture needs from the business. Reporting to the Country IT manager, the role holder will be part of a global Information technology organisation and will be interacting with the business functional leads and working with people and teams in different countries where GTS operates. This is an opportunity to branch out of a local role and work on a more global basis. This role will be working from our sites across London, Birmingham or Manchester, with a portion of the role performed remotely. This role will transition to Hitachi Rail as part of the transfer of ownership of GTS. Key Responsibilities: This role requires a hands-on person who will drive the creation of data visualisations from requirement through to finished production product. Able to work with different levels of the organisation and understand verbal requirements to take through development iterations into a finished output. - Provide hands on technical support on existing BI tools (Cognos, Power BI) working with function leads and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) - Ensure BI tools and environment support, manage data integration and environments availability. - Act as a GTS interface between the BI tools, GTS end users and the UK technical support team - Support, train and coach local functions SMEs on BI use and development of local dashboards (Power BI) - Work with Functions leads to identify opportunities to leverage the use of BI to draw efficiencies in reporting and to provide improved visibility of business performance. - Develop BI solutions to implement these opportunities and roll-out to the business - Working as a business analyst. Technical Skills and Experience - Proven experience as a Power BI developer or Data Scientist - Technical understanding of developing Power BI - Dashboard design, development and deployment - Create visualizations and reports for requested projects - Develop and update technical documentation as required. - Broad experience of data modelling and report design and development - Ability to be able to deliver training material, process briefings, requirements capture, etc. to small and large audiences. - Proven experience of creating tabular data models in SSAS - Knowledge of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) - Ability to connect BI tools directly to various data sources - Prior experience and involvement in business transformation activities Human skills - Excellent communication skills to deliver workshops on Power BI to the business - Ability to work with all levels of stakeholders within GTS - An understanding of various business needs and ability to learn our specific business quickly - Be able to engage and work with people - Be able to work to tight deadlines - Be a positive influence on the team and your stakeholders Qualifications: Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant subject What We Can Offer We’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best.
