Your Role as a Data Governance Manager
As a Data Governance Manager reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Governance, you will play a critical role in advancing TELUS' Data Governance program. This includes supporting the Data Lifecycle Management Program and the Data Enablement Plan Program. Partnering with a cross-functional team, you will champion a streamlined data governance platform. Your contributions will be crucial in leveraging data respectfully while anticipating challenges at the intersection of privacy, ethics, technology, and data.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish best practices for Data Lifecycle Management (Records Retention) through retention schedule development, policy, procedures, and standards implementation.
- Enhance our data governance technology platform by managing conditional logic-based components from design to ongoing monitoring and improvement.
- Lead successful technology implementations, handling conflicting priorities, resource constraints, dependencies, risk management, contingency planning, and scope change management using project management skills.
- Support data governance and data lifecycle management program evolution by developing training for key audiences and providing program support for TELUS Data Stewards and Privacy and Security experts.
- Assist the data governance community by preparing presentations, communications, monitoring support chats, and developing web content.
- Define and implement best-in-class processes for various data roles under TELUS' Data Lifecycle Management Policy, including privacy and security experts.
- Support program administration by monitoring success metrics, communicating with key stakeholders, and other program delivery tasks.
- Commit to continuous learning, daily innovation, and thought leadership demonstration.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in Data Lifecycle Management, Data Governance, and program delivery in a large matrixed organization.
- Experience in leading or supporting program development with multiple organizational stakeholders across various functions.
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to influence senior-level decisions.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into clear, concise business cases and structured projects/programs.
- An innovative mindset to identify opportunities outside conventional thinking to solve problems and address gaps.
- Proficiency in data governance technology, business process modeling, and enterprise implementation of data governance tools and solutions (OneTrust and Collibra preferred).
- Adaptability to a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Expertise in Google Workspace (G-Suite) and/or Microsoft Office.
- University degree.
- Experience in public-facing roles with a customer service element.
- In-depth knowledge of privacy or data governance concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in English & French (verbal and/or written).
- Project management experience.
- A creative mindset.
- Experience working in a large, matrixed organization.
- Certifications such as DCAM, DAMA, CIPPC.
