Job Description

Sia Partners is planning to establish a Data Science business unit in Toronto! We are in search of skilled Senior Data Scientists to support and help expand our activities within the Data Science Business Unit.

You will be collaborating with our Data Science consultants in our other offices and our clients on Data Science matters, including data acquisition and exploration, creating relevant data models and presenting results to stakeholders.

You will also contribute to internal Data Science projects hosted on Heka, our internal accelerator for Data Science projects. Being a part of the global Data Science team, you will contribute to the development of various solutions catered to address our clients’ needs.

Working in synergy with our various departments and sectors, you will be responsible for tasks and assignments requiring the application of complex models to support our customers in their concerns:

  • Machine learning and statistics: development of explanatory and predictive decision-making models (supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, econometrics, forecasting, quantitative diagnostics);
  • Operational research: assisting in the design and execution of restrained optimization solutions and simulation models;
  • Big Data: algorithmic knowledge for handling large volumes of unstructured data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with our client’s leadership teams, engineers, program managers and data analysts to comprehend data needs.
  • Identify, acquire, process and explore relevant data sources.
  • Analyze large volumes of structured and unstructured information to discover trends and patterns.
  • Use your data analytics and science expertise to derive valuable insights from datasets, construct predictive models and machine-learning algorithms.
  • Communicate at scale, through multiple mediums: presentations, dashboards, datasets, bots and more.
  • Propose solutions and strategies to business challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams.
  • Various partners equate to a variety of projects and deliverables, including Models, algorithms, datasets, measurements, services, tools and processes.
  • Collaborate with compliance teams to ensure data models and algorithms meet regulatory requirements and best practices related to financial crimes.
  • Integrate and apply knowledge of sanction screening and transaction monitoring platforms in data analytics to enhance the detection and prevention of financial crimes.
  • Ensure alignment of data science activities with compliance standards, focusing especially on financial crimes, sanctions, and other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years' experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
  • Experience with building models, machine-learning, NLP
  • You are proficient in R programming (or equivalent: SAS, Matlab, etc.) and have a solid foundation in scripting languages (Python, Perl, JS, bash) or compiled languages (C++, Java) and/or experience in UNIX/LINUX environments.
  • Understanding of Legal and Compliance functional areas and previous experience in similar topics
  • 4+ years' experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBi, R Shiny)
  • Problem-solving aptitude and business acumen
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • BSc/BA or Master Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in working with compliance data, particularly in the areas of financial crimes, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring.
  • Awareness and understanding of regulatory requirements and best practices in the field of Compliance and Financial crimes.
