About the Role: Data Scientist - Computational Design (Maternity Replacement)

The Data Scientist, Computational Design, will drive the technical advancement of our Vaccines projects through cutting-edge Data Science and Computational Design techniques. Located within our Vaccines Discovery Data Science Centre of Excellence, this role entails formulating and analyzing complex, high-dimensional data sets to derive biological insights crucial for vaccine R&D. You will work autonomously across various projects, employing your expertise in technical methodologies and strategies to enhance vaccine and antigen design. Reporting to the Head of Computational Design, this position guarantees our data analytics and bioinformatics efforts align with the pinnacle of research and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

As part of your role, you will:

  • Develop and optimize computational design workflows for proteins and antigens that enhance multiple vaccine properties.
  • Create data analysis pipelines that integrate diverse, large-scale datasets and tools within a clear structural biology framework.
  • Drive innovation and facilitate collaboration to refine our data-driven approach, enhancing processes and boosting research outcomes.
  • Communicate complex Computational Design principles effectively to both internal stakeholders and the wider scientific community.

What it Takes to Succeed

Basic Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, or related fields.
  • Hands-on experience with protein sequence and structure data analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and C/C++.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and/or deep-learning frameworks like scikit-learn or PyTorch.
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in relevant fields.
  • Experience using AI/ML tools for protein design.
  • Expertise in integrating data for hypothesis generation to support protein design and selection.
