What You'll Be Doing

In your role as an Entry-Level Manufacturing Data Scientist, you'll quickly become an integral member of our shared, multidisciplinary team committed to aiding digital transformation within the Australian manufacturing businesses. You'll play a key role in implementing state-of-the-art machine learning models within the production environment. Your duties will cover the entire spectrum of Machine Learning Operations () from conceptualization, actual deployment, and production of the models you help create. We are looking for someone with a unique blend of business know-how, solid analytical and problem-solving talents, and basic Python programming abilities. Exposure to heavy engineering/manufacturing processes and a background in data-related skills will be invaluable, as you will be utilizing machine learning and various data-focused techniques to optimize and elevate steel manufacturing processes.

Your Impactful Role

As a Manufacturing Data Scientist, you will play a vital role in our machine learning projects throughout their development stages. You will be a crucial team member, responsible for:

  • Developing sturdy data and ML pipelines for training and deploying ML models
  • Writing efficient and effective code, contributing significantly to the model development process
  • Ensuring the solidity of the code and models as projects progress, meeting agreed-upon standards
  • Fulfilling production requirements for model monitoring, drift detection, and retraining
  • Thoroughly documenting data pipelines and transformations
  • Producing comprehensive model documentation

Your collaborative spirit will be highlighted as you work closely with IT, OT, and the broader digital team to deploy models into production and smoothly integrate them with existing systems.

Your Profile

We comprehend you might not be an industry expert yet, and that's fine. We have an internal support network prepared to assist your learning journey. What we value most is your passion for machine learning, artificial intelligence, and visual AI within the heavy manufacturing sector. Perhaps you come from an engineering or computer science background and are keen to transition into the realm of Data Science. We are seeking a team player with:

  • An inherent capability to deliver data-driven solutions and proficiency in leading data science tools
  • A recognized degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related Sciences
  • Strong communication skills, enabling you to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Prior exposure to Data Science or Machine Learning, although not mandatory, would be advantageous
  • Basic coding skills, preferably in Python, would be beneficial
  • Familiarity with AZURE cloud-based systems would be regarded favorably
  • Although you don't need to be a data engineer, some knowledge of SQL and an understanding of databases would be useful
