Job Summary

NRG is looking for a skilled Data Scientist to join our Enterprise Data Science team. You will be responsible for developing and applying models and statistical analysis within our Enterprise Data & Analytics group, receiving support from IT, Data Engineering and Governance, Business Intelligence, and Product Management. You will work on cross-functional project teams to deliver scalable data solutions, driving value across our operations, such as electricity and gas contracts, plant operations, trading, and energy services. This position reports to the Data Science Lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Understanding and implementing machine learning and deep learning models for prediction, classification, and clustering projects.
• Optimizing marketing efforts through statistical modeling or machine learning in areas such as customer acquisition, retention, pricing, plant operations, and trading.
• Translating complex business issues into actionable analytical projects.
• Communicating and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams effectively.
• Proficiency in Python, including pandas and scikit-learn.
• Experience with Spark or Pyspark.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field like Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, or Operations Research.
• 3+ years of experience in statistical modeling and quantitative analysis in industry or academic research.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced Degree (MS or PhD) in Statistics, Mathematics, or Quantitative Marketing with a focus on machine learning.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in the retail electricity or gas sector.
• Comfortable working in Linux.
• Experience with Git.
• Experience with AWS SageMaker, Google Cloud Vertex AI, Databricks, Docker containers.
• Ability to quickly learn and apply new quantitative techniques.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to interpret and communicate complex analytics results and identify practical business implications.
• Critical thinking skills to verify the accuracy of conclusions before sharing.

Physical Requirements

• Close visual acuity for tasks like preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
• Occasional overtime work may be required.
