Job Description The Director of Data Engineering & Architecture plays a pivotal role, responsible for the design, development, and implementation of all data engineering and analytics initiatives within the company. This role is vital in utilizing data to make informed decisions, enhancing business operations, and gaining competitive advantages. Responsibilities are not limited to: - Developing and communicating a clear vision and strategy for data engineering and analytics that aligns with the organization's goals and objectives. - Working closely with business heads and technology associates to identify opportunities where data can be used to generate business value. - Leading, mentoring, and managing an accomplished team of data engineers, data analysts, data scientists, and other professionals. - Fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within and across other tech teams. - Outlining a long-term strategy and execution for a scalable and adaptable architecture for comprehensive data management to drive Vuori’s analytics journey. - Being a thought leader in data architecture, ingest patterns, constructing an efficient data warehouse, and enabling self-service for our global user base. - Overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of robust data architectures and infrastructure to aid data collection, storage, processing, and retrieval. - Ensuring data security, compliance, and data quality standards are met. - Defining and constructing an enterprise data model and business semantic layer to enable reporting and self-service across the organization. - Leading the adoption of advanced analytics in business use case enablement. - Collaborating with business heads to apply analytics towards use cases to test, learn and enhance business value. - Establishing processes for data visualization and reporting to deliver actionable insights to stakeholders. - Implementing data governance policies and procedures to maintain data integrity, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations, such as GDPR and HIPAA. - Establishing data retention policies and data lifecycle management strategies. - Evaluating and implementing suitable data analytics tools, platforms, and technologies to support the team's objectives. - Keeping abreast with trends and emerging technologies in data engineering and analytics. - Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data-driven insights are incorporated into decision-making processes. - Communicating data-driven insights and recommendations to executive leadership and key stakeholders. - Setting up KPIs and metrics to measure the impact and effectiveness of data engineering and analytics initiatives. - Regularly reviewing and analyzing performance data to identify areas for improvement. Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering); a Master's degree is preferred. - Demonstrated experience (typically 10+ years) in data engineering, data analytics, and leadership roles, with a track record of successful delivery of data-driven solutions. - Deep understanding of data engineering concepts, data warehousing, data modelling, ETL processes, and cloud-based technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). - Proficiency in data analytics, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools (e.g., Python, R, Tableau, Power BI, Microstrategy among other tools). - Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, cross-functional environment. - Strong problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities. - Knowledge of data privacy and compliance regulations. - Demonstrated experience managing resources, budgets, and building high performing teams.
