Job Description
This internship works closely with the Senior Data Scientist and offers a thrilling opportunity to acquire first-hand experience in the Medical Device Industry. The internship is designed to familiarize the intern with the industry with a focus on how Intuitive uses data and analytics to ensure quality in our products and services. The intern will gain foundational knowledge in numerous aspects of the data analytics pipeline, such as database comprehension, design and execution, data consolidation and management, data visualization, and advanced analytics. Working alongside the Senior Data Scientist, the intern will concentrate on one or two fundamental projects, resulting in a presentation to the team leaders. Our objective is to offer the intern an environment to learn and develop, as well as make significant contributions to the team’s goals.
Roles & Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Data Scientist Intern will be tailored based on the credentials and educational level of the chosen student. In general, the intern will have the opportunity to work under the guidance of our senior members and gain experience in the following areas:
- Writing SQL queries to extract information from cloud-based databases, perform data reformatting, and consolidation.
- Creating or enhancing dashboard reports using Tableau as a business intelligence (BI) reporting tool.
- Data mining and extracting valuable data from various sources.
- Utilizing machine learning tools to choose features, develop, and optimize classifiers.
- Conducting preprocessing of structured and unstructured data.
- Analyzing large amounts of information to identify patterns and propose solutions.
If the selected candidate has prior training in statistics, and is proficient in advanced programming using R, R-Shiny, or Python, we can offer advanced data analytics projects. These projects will provide exposure and experience in areas such as machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), natural language processing (NLP), and forecasting.
Qualifications
University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:
- University Enrollment: Applicants must currently be enrolled in and planning to return to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
- Internship Work Period: Applicants must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates will be communicated during the recruitment process.
Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
- Master level student or PhD candidate majoring in Statistics/Biostatistics, Applied Mathematics, Information Science, quantitative engineering or other related fields
- High passion and energy in applying quantitative techniques to tackle business opportunities
- Skilled in SQL Programming and open source language(s) (Python or R)
- Knowledge and training in statistics is not a requirement but certainly a big plus
- Preference is given for in-person training and effective communication to candidates from the San Francisco Bay Area or remote students who are able to work in that area (at your own cost) during the intern training period.
